Show #52: PHP Course Orientation

Filed under: Radio, Courses, PHP101 — Jowl @ 11:27 am

We started our setup for the PHP course we are going to do next week, we introduced a new member to the show named Spawn. The setup involved Spawn and I opening up Windows Explorer and going to our shared documents folder then making a new folder named courses. Then we made a subfolder inside of courses called PHP and then we made a subfolder inside of the PHP folder called Jowl. Then we put 32 subfolders inside of Jowl and labeled them from 1-32, we labeled all the way to 32 because this course will take at least 32 weeks.

Links Discussed:
Cyberwurx Hosting - PHP hosting for as little as $5 a month
Cyberduck - Good FTP clients for the Mac
Smart Ftp - Windows-based drag/drop FTP editor, similar in design and functionality to Windows Explorer
Notetab - good text editor for Windows, the light version is free
PSPad - Windows-based free text editor with lots of code syntax options. WMcookbook recommended!

Show #51: PHP Course Preparation

Filed under: Radio — Jowl @ 4:20 pm

Today we talked about fixing up a old PHP course that ChefTD made and we’re going to go through it and update it. Then he is going to take me through the course and by the end I should be able to work on creating my own messsageboard script for Webmaster Cookbook from scratch.

The training starts in 2 weeks, on Friday September 23, 2005 and it will go for approximently 32 weeks and will be about 30 mins to 1 hour per show depending on how the show goes. I will be posting many things on this site, including my to-do assignments, so look forward to seeing that start in a couple weeks.

If you’d like to learn how to program in PHP then set your calendars. The podcast’s from the PHP course will be posted up on this site and will be free for you to listen to as always. We also talked about what two things you needed to start PHP, those two things were a text editor and a ftp.

Some examples of text editors that ChefTD gave were Notetab, and Pspad. ChefTD also gave examples of ftp clients and they were, Cyberduck for the mac, and smartftp.

Show #38: Talked about why Podcasts were not updated

Filed under: Radio — Jowl @ 6:04 am

We talked through Skype while doing BlogEvent. Listened to artist: Somewhere Between Here And There, the song was entitled “So What’s It All About.” I rated the the song a 5 on a scale from 1 to 10. Also talked about what BlogEvent is because Forser had asked what it was. It is a place for writing and submitting drafts and seeing what other people are writing about. Write into a draft, check it over to make it perfect, then publish it. ChefTD pointed out to me that the podcasts were five weeks behind and that we needed to get them up. It was an extremely short addition of Webmaster Cookbook.

3 day weekend

Well this weekend is Labor Day weekend which means I don’t have to go back to school on monday I can just stay home because its a day off. So that is cool but what will I spend my 3 days doing, so many things I can do possibly I’ll go outside or read a book. Playing on the computer gets boring after a while but I do like it and well I will head outside this weekend. The exercising that ChefTD and I have been doing has made me lose weight, and now I cant fit into my pants. So I guess the working out has done me well even though its hard to get up.

Today is school

This morning is and will be a harsh morning for me because first of all its the first day of school again, and not that I have problems getting up or anything but if you cant sleep and you stay up till 3:00 am how do you expect to wake up at 4:00 am? So I haven’t gone to school quite yet but I will be sure to add in some of my thoughts of my first day in 10th grade. Also this morning I downloaded MSN Toolbar because I needed tab browsing. I’m one of those people kind of like my Mom who always has tons of windows open and thats why I like MSN Toolbars tab browsing.
